On Sunday 21st July Christ Church Balham was formally received as an Associate Congregation of the Free Church of England. Bishop Paul Hunt licensed Rev’d Andy Palmer as Presbyter-in-charge and Dr Adam Johnston was licensed as a Reader. The congregation enjoyed hearing Bishop Paul’s testimony, and were excited to think about the opportunities our new partnership might provide going forward. It was wonderful to have representatives join us from other FCE churches in London, including Christ Church, Harlesden, and St. Jude’s, Balham.
We were reminded from God’s word of our calling to spread God’s blessing to the ends of the earth (Genesis 9-10) by proclaiming the message of repentance to the nations in the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 17:22-31). By obeying this calling we will be prevented from locating our security in numbers or seeking to make a name for ourselves (Genesis 11:1-9).
Christ Church Balham is a thriving fellowship, with a number of students, city workers and young families. For over 17 years their mission has been to create ‘disciple-making disciples of Jesus Christ’, and throughout that time God has used them to train up a number of people for ministry and plant two other churches in the area. CCB is excited by the prospect of receiving solidly evangelical episcopal oversight from Bishop Paul Hunt, and the creation of a viable route to ordination for their young men. You can visit their website to discover more of their story, and this document shares more of the reasons why they have decided to join the FCE.
