Northern Diocese Clergy Conference

Emmanuel Church, Morecambe, hosted a meeting the clergy of the Northern Diocese and some enquirers on 11th July 2023.

After initial introductions, Bishop John Fenwick spoke of previous generations of faithful clergy who had maintained a Gospel witness in the Diocese. It is now our duty to take up the baton and carry on their legacy.

The main business of the day was the Revd Tony Welty of the Reformed Episcopal Church in North America, assisted by his wife Cherie, sharing his experiences and teaching about church revitalisation. Also present from the REC was Deacon Aaron Pelot, who is currently undertaking research at St Andrew’s University in Scotland and was welcomed into the Diocesan fellowship.

There was a short service of Holy Communion before lunch at which Bishop John preached from Matthew 11 about expectations. A buffet lunch was provided by Brett’s wife, Kat. In the afternoon break the group toured Emmanuel Church and talked of the vision for its revitalisation.

Before closing, those present agreed to set up a Diocesan Clergy WhatsApp group and a date to meet again in September to discuss future Diocesan strategy.
