Southern Diocese Synod

Representatives from all churches in the Southern Diocese gathered at St Jude’s Church, Balham, on Saturday for a well-attended and significant Synod. The day was marked by reports, elections, and a spirit of fellowship among clergy and lay members.

Bishop Paul Hunt addressed the Synod with a report detailing the events and progress made since the last gathering. His address highlighted the ongoing growth and activities within the diocese, celebrating the commitment of churches to their local communities and spiritual missions.

A key moment of the day was the episcopal election for a new assistant bishop in the Southern Diocese. Following due process and prayer, the Rev’d Dr Mark Gretason was elected as a recommendation to Convocation. In addition to the episcopal election, officers for the forthcoming year were also elected, ensuring the continued smooth governance and administration of the diocese.

Reports from each of the churches across the Southern Diocese were overwhelmingly positive. Representatives shared encouraging updates on community involvement, and spiritual development within their congregations.

The hospitality provided by St Jude’s, Balham, was a highlight of the day. Attendees enjoyed a well-prepared meal, with many expressing their appreciation for the generosity and effort put into ensuring that everyone was well-fed and refreshed throughout the event.

The synod concluded with the singing of the hymn “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of Creation”. The Southern Diocese Synod was a day of fruitful discussions, key elections, and warm fellowship, bringing together church representatives in unity and purpose.
