Deacon Ordained in the FCE

A service of celebration and thanksgiving was held on Sunday, 31st May as Athanasios Velianitis, “Thanos,” was ordained as a Deacon in the Free Church of England.

The ordination took place at Epping Green Chapel, Epping, during a joyful and prayerful service led by the Right Rev’d Dr Paul Hunt. Assisting the Bishop was the Rev’d Eric Fenwick, who also delivered the sermon. The Rev’d Ambrose Oliver also assisted with the service.

The ordination of a deacon marks an important stage in the life of the Church and in the vocation of those called to ordained ministry. As a deacon, Thanos is entrusted with assisting in worship, proclaiming the Gospel, preaching, pastoral care, and serving both the Church and the wider community.

Speaking after the service, many expressed their joy at witnessing Thanos take this important step in his ministerial journey. The occasion was marked by prayer, fellowship, and thanksgiving as those present celebrated God’s calling upon his life.

The Free Church of England offers its congratulations to the Rev’d Athanasios and assures him of continued prayers as he begins this new chapter of service in Christ’s Church.
