The Convocation of the Free Church of England took place Monday, 11th May to Wednesday, 13th May at Highgate House, Northampton. The few days of Convocation were marked by worship and Christian fellowship, bringing together clergy and laity from across the UK for prayerful reflection, careful consideration of Convocation business, and encouragement in the service of Christ and His Church.
Convocation commenced on Monday afternoon with the opening session of Convocation business, chaired by the Bishop Primus, assisted by the General Secretary, the Venerable Dr Bob Stephen.
The day concluded with Book of Common Prayer Evening Prayer, led by the Rev’d Anthony Walsh, Minister-in-Charge of St George’s, Blackburn. During the service, the Right Rev’d Paul Hunt, delivered his Charge to Convocation, offering pastoral encouragement and reflection to those gathered.
Proceedings continued throughout Tuesday with further sessions of Convocation business and discussion. Members were also greatly encouraged by an address on Anglican unity delivered by the Right Rev’d Andy Lines and Canon Andrew Symes of the Anglican Network in Europe.
Convocation concluded on Wednesday with the celebration of Holy Communion, led by Bishop Paul Hunt, assisted by the Right Rev’d Mark Gretason. The sermon was preached by the Right Rev’d Matthew Firth, whose words provided a fitting conclusion to the gathering and an encouragement to continued faithfulness in ministry and mission.
Convocation this year was a happy and positive time where the necessary business was done and with plenty opportunities for fellowship and prayer.
