Historic Ordinations at St Andrew’s, Bentley

What a privilege to witness the ordination of three men for the ministry last Sunday (2 July) at St Andrew’s; the ordinations being carried out by Bishop of the Southern Diocese, Rt Revd Paul Hunt. Those ordained were Henry Birtley, to work within St Andrew’s, David Binder, who will work in the prisons, and Eric Fenwick from Christ Church, Leigh-on-Sea. It was a well attended service with about 80 in the congregation and there was ample food afterwards. To Bishop Paul’s knowledge there has never been a triple ordination in the Free Church of England.

It was good to see the Revd Daniel Choe and his wife, Grace, and representatives of the ordinands’ families. Revd Mark was the preacher. He gave an excellent word for the ordinands to consider. The central theme of the sermon was, ‘It’s all about the calling…, It’s all about the message…, It’s all about the people’. Please continue to pray for Henry, Eric and David as they do the Lord’s will.
